Arbitration text wins J.F. Northey Memorial Book Award

29 May 2012

Williams & Kawharu on Arbitration has won the 2012 J.F. Northey Memorial Book Award at the Legal Research Foundation Annual Writing Awards.

Chapman Tripp Partner Daniel Kalderimis was a contributing author to the text. The primary authors were Amokura Kawharu and David Williams QC.

The JF Northey Memorial Book Award is awarded by the New Zealand Law Foundation for the best New Zealand legal book published between 1 January and 31 December the previous year.

Williams and Kawharu on Arbitration is New Zealand’s first comprehensive text on domestic and international arbitration, and includes both legal analysis and practical guidance.  The book was described by the judging panel as an “excellent, comprehensive exposition of the law of arbitration which was likely to make a lasting contribution to that area of law”.

Daniel leads Chapman Tripp’s international arbitration and trade law practice. He is identified in The International Who’s Who of Commercial Arbitration as one of the world’s leading arbitration specialists.  Last year he co-presented, with David Williams QC, the New Zealand Law Society seminar on arbitration.  In April 2012, he was appointed New Zealand’s national correspondent to the United Nations for the two instruments on which New Zealand’s arbitration law is based.
