Chapman Tripp Partner wins J.F. Northey Memorial Book Award

17 June 2011

Chapman Tripp Partner Matt Sumpter has won this year’s J.F. Northey Memorial Book Award at the Legal Research Foundation Annual Writing Awards.

It was for his book New Zealand Competition Law and Policy, the first comprehensive text on this topic, published last year by CCH, Auckland.

“There is a freshness and vivacity in the book’s approach and its writing,” said the Legal Research Foundation. “The book achieves the rare feat of being of use to both new and experienced competition law practitioners as well as commerce and law students.”

Matt is a member of Chapman Tripp’s litigation team. He has taught competition law for many years at the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Law where he holds an honorary position.  This year he is also teaching a master’s course on anti-trust aspects of public takeovers.  Matt advises clients on market power issues and whether commercial strategies and potential acquisitions comply with the Commerce Act 1986.  He is also internationally recognised in the field of intellectual property law.
