Chapman Tripp completes full set of MOM transactions with Genesis listing

17 April 2014

Chapman Tripp has advised the Treasury on all aspects of Genesis Energy’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) and NZX and ASX listings. This is the final sale in the New Zealand Government’s Mixed Ownership Model (MOM) programme and Chapman Tripp is the only New Zealand firm to have played key roles in all four of the transactions.

The Genesis team was led by partner Stephen Lowe and senior associate Rachel Dunne and also included partners John Strowger, Geof Shirtcliffe and Josh Blackmore.

Stephen Lowe said: “We are very pleased to have worked with the Treasury team for the second time within the MOM programme. The strong demand for Genesis shares is yet another sign of the strength of New Zealand’s capital markets and we are proud to have played a role in so many of the major ECM developments over the past 18 months.”

In addition to our role on the Genesis IPO, we have advised:

  • the Treasury on the sell down of 20% of the Government’s holding in national airline Air New Zealand
  • The New Zealand Guardian Trust Company and The Trust Company (Australia) on their role as instalment receipt trustees for the IPO and NZX and ASX listings of Meridian Energy, and
  • Mighty River Power on all aspects of its IPO and NZX and ASX listing.
