Iwi investment companies buy Go Bus

14 August 2014

Chapman Tripp has advised Ngai Tahu Holdings Corporation (NTHC) and Tainui Group Holdings (TGH) on their agreement to buy Go Bus for $170m. Go Bus is one of New Zealand’s largest public transport operators.

The Chapman Tripp team was led by partner John Strowger and included senior associate Te Aopare Dewes. Partner Cathryn Barber is advising on the finance aspects of the purchase.

John Strowger said: “We congratulate NTHC and TGH on this acquisition. It’s great for the economy when strong Māori funds add well-established New Zealand businesses, like Go Bus, to their capital base.

“This role reinforces Chapman Tripp’s reputation for helping the Māori economy maximise its commercial assets through our established Māori Services Group, Te Waka Ture.”

The sale is conditional and due to settle at the end of September.
