A working group has been appointed to review the Holidays Act. The group is due to report to the Minister of Labour by 15 December this year.
The review aims to make the Act easier to understand, less costly to apply and more applicable to a range of employment conditions (such as 24 hour/7 day a week businesses and remuneration arrangements that contain a significant commission or incentive component).
Particular attention will be focussed on:
- the calculation of relevant daily pay;
- trading annual leave for cash at the employee's request;
- transferring the observance of public holidays; and
- leave entitlements for casual employees.
The working group will invite written public submissions and oral submissions.
