Ben specialises in banking and finance, with a focus on bilateral and syndicated bank lending, project financing, and restructuring and insolvency.
He has broad experience advising lenders and borrowers across a range of industries and practice areas. He has a particular interest in financing for decarbonisation initiatives.
Prior to joining Chapman Tripp, Ben worked as a solicitor at a South Island law firm, advising clients on a range of corporate, commercial and property transactions.

- Advised NZ Steel on its landmark $140 million funding agreement with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority to build an electric arc furnace at NZ Steel’s Glenbrook steel works.
- Advised Fonterra on its $90 million funding agreement with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority to support reductions in Fonterra's coal use.
- Advised the Crown in relation to its position as secured creditor in the voluntary administration, liquidation and receivership of Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Limited.
- Advised Powerco on its full suite of financing matters, including bank facilities and capital markets transactions.
- Advised Crown Irrigation Investments Limited on amendments to the project financing arrangements for the Waimea Community Dam.
- Assisted Christchurch International Airport Limited with the contractual arrangements for the Kōwhai Park solar farm project.
