Court order against financial adviser unlikely to set precedent

The order by the High Court that a financial adviser pay almost $260,000 in damages to an elderly widow whom it advised to invest in a Blue Chip scheme is unlikely to set a strong precedent for similar claims in our view.

The ETS deal - pure politics

With the Maori Party on-side, National now has the numbers to push through the revamped Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) it wanted.  A Bill will be introduced next week and then the Emissions Trading Scheme Review Committee will once more consider the issue.
So what is in the Bill?  And will this finally give the Scheme certainty?

In this interview Nick discusses moves by the government to ease the rules around foreign investment. He notes the need for practicality and certainty with a national interest test. He objects to the 25% threshold for foreign investment. He recommends defining strategic industries rather than particular assets.
