Dermot has acted in many of New Zealand's most significant financings, workouts and acquisitions by foreign companies. Dermot is one of New Zealand’s most highly regarded finance lawyers. His principal practice areas are in syndications, capital markets programmes, corporate financing structures, workouts and other complex transactions. He has acted on a number of major securitisations and other structured financings. He is a former president of the Australian-based Banking and Financial Services Law Association.
Dermot is the only New Zealand lawyer to be listed in Legal Media Group's Best of the Best 2010 for his banking work. He is also regularly listed as a leading lawyer in IFLR 1000 (restructuring & insolvency lawyer; banking & finance lawyer), Legal Media Group Guide to the World’s Leading Banking Lawyers, Chambers Global and Asia Pacific Legal 500. The 2006 edition of the International Who’s Who of Banking Lawyers named him the most highly nominated lawyer in New Zealand amongst banking law practitioners.
Recent experience
Dermot has acted for:
- the agent and lenders with regard to the NZ$1.1b credit facilities for the Fletcher Building group in 2007
- the arrangers and lenders with regard to the NZ$1.2b financing for Fonterra in 2007
- the arrangers and lenders with regard to the Zespri Group NZ$200m funding facility in 2008, and
- Mighty River Power on its NZ$300m bond issue in 2006, guaranteed by XL Assurance Inc.
