John is a commercial litigator who specialises in construction law and media law.
John advises clients on a wide range of commercial disputes, including representing them in High Court litigation, arbitration proceedings and alternative dispute resolution procedures. He acts for clients from all sectors of the construction industry, including contractors, principals, engineers, financiers, suppliers and manufacturers. John also advises on media law issues, including acting for a major publishing company for many years in several high-profile defamation proceedings.

- James Hardie in relation to "leaky building" claims; and leading New Zealand and Australian engineering and consultancy firms on matters in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and Dubai
- high net worth individuals in defamation and privacy disputes
- Metro Water and Manukau Water by providing litigation and strategic advice, and
- NZ Transport Agency (formerly Transit New Zealand) on recovery actions and a wide range of construction law matters, including issues relating to contract drafting, tendering, contractors’ claims, and insurance.
