Michael is a consultant in our financial team focusing on restructuring and insolvency law.
He advises clients on securities law, financing, corporate recovery and insolvency. He also advises receivers on a number of high-profile receiverships, and is currently involved in a number of debt restructuring transactions.
Michael has been recognised as a leading lawyer by independent legal directories Chambers Global, Asia Pacific Legal 500, IFLR 1000, and PLC Which Lawyer?.
Michael was a partner at Chapman Tripp for 23 years, including two years as Managing Partner of the Auckland office, before becoming a consultant with the firm in 2011.

Michael has advised:
- receivers on a number of high-profile receiverships including the receivership of South Canterbury Finance, the largest receivership in New Zealand for 20 years
- the receivers of Bridgecorp (in receivership)
- the receivers of Belgrave Finance
- Commonwealth Bank of Australia, ANZ National Bank, BNZ and Westpac on NZ$525m loans to Macquarie Goodman Property Trust, and
- Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation in New Zealand on its lending and funding activities.
