Neil is a partner in our corporate & commercial team focusing on competition, regulatory & antitrust law, including the emerging area of climate change.
Neil advises various clients across a broad range of network industries, most notably telecommunications, gas, postal, and electricity. He also advises a number of clients in the primary sector, in particular meat, rural services and fishing. In the forestry sector Neil advised Ngāti Porou on its joint venture with SFM to establish a commercial carbon sink in forests planted on Ngāti Porou land. He advises on competition law and regulatory matters and has extensive experience engaging with regulators on matters such as merger proposals; formal investigations of alleged anti-competitive conduct; and industry-specific regulatory issues.
Recent experience
Neil has advised:
- Telecom New Zealand on the competition law and regulatory implications of a wide range of commercial matters, such as pricing, bundling, and broadband strategy
- Telecom New Zealand with its participation in the regulatory standard terms process under which key regulated services are made available on an industry-wide basis
- New Zealand Post on the full range of strategic competition law and regulating matters, and
- Shell on competition law issues in New Zealand, including issues related to transmission open access; joint marketing of gas produced through joint venture mechanisms; and operation of jointly owned facilities.
