Chapman Tripp Partner Dermot Ross has been selected as New Zealand’s pre-eminent banking lawyer by Legal Media Group’s Best of the Best 2010 guide.
The guide lists leading lawyers from around the world in 11 practice areas. Dermot is the only New Zealand lawyer listed for any practice area.
Dermot has acted in many of New Zealand's most significant financings, workouts and acquisitions by foreign companies. He is one of New Zealand’s most highly regarded finance lawyers. His principal practice areas are in syndications, capital markets programmes, corporate financing structures, workouts and other complex transactions. He has acted on a number of major securitisations and other structured financings. He is a former president of the Australian-based Banking and Financial Services Law Association.
Best of the Best is produced by the legal arm of respected publishers Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, and is updated every two years. The research process involves sending over 4,000 questionnaires to senior practitioners or in-house counsel involved in each practice area in over 60 jurisdictions, asking them to nominate leading practitioners based on their work and reputation. The results are analysed and screened for firm, network and alliance bias. The list of experts is then discussed and refined with advisers in legal centres worldwide.
Dermot is also regularly ranked as a leading lawyer in IFLR 1000 (restructuring & insolvency lawyer; banking & finance lawyer), Legal Media Group Guide to the World’s Leading Banking Lawyers, Chambers Global and Asia Pacific Legal 500.
