Barnard specialises in trust law and private client advice.
Barnard has over 30 years’ legal experience and advises clients on all aspects of trust formation, structuring, administration and management. He holds trusteeships in numerous family trusts and estates.
He has a varied background in other areas of corporate and commercial legal practice, tax and banking law.
Barnard joined the firm in 1979, became a partner in 1981, and a consultant in 1995.
He holds a professional teaching fellowship at the University of Auckland's Faculty of Business and Economics where he teaches commercial law and tax.
Barnard has advised:
- on asset protection and structuring for local clients with significant business or personal assets, and
- on trust and asset reorganisation, including resettlements and variations of existing trusts and of trust structures particularly to deal with intergenerational issues and for modernisation.
