Jai advises clients on a wide range of New Zealand tax matters including structuring, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border investments and tax disputes.

Jai has trans-Tasman experience in Big Four accounting firms, covering Australian and New Zealand tax matters. She specialised in corporate M&A taxation and international taxation for clients operating in a range of industries including utilities, engineering, media, insurance and financial services.

Recent experience

Jai has:

  • advised Evolution Healthcare on the tax aspects of its acquisition of Acurity Healthgroup and the sale of Boulcott Hospital
  • advised Oji Oceania Management (NZ) on the tax aspects of its acquisition of 100% of the shares in Carter Holt Harvey Pulp & Paper from Carter Holt Harvey
  • advised on the acquisition by Hunan Dakang Farming Co of the shares in An Yuan Dairy from Shanghai Pengxin Group
  • advised on Spark’s sale of Telecom Rentals to FlexiGroup, a finance company based in Australia and listed on the ASX
  • advised a number of Australian and New Zealand private equity firms on tax structuring, due diligence and model reviews for proposed acquisitions
  • advised EBOS Group on tax structuring and due diligence for the acquisition of Symbion Healthcare and Masterpet
  • provided sell side assistance, including tax vendor due diligence and structuring, for the proposed sale of large entertainment/television network groups, the downstream business of a multi-national oil and gas company and various divestments of Australian and New Zealand government assets, and
  • provided tax assistance, including tax due diligence and tax structuring advice, for the IPOs of various Australian and New Zealand companies.
