Jared is a commercial litigation lawyer with particular interests in insurance and construction disputes.

Jared has represented public and private sector clients in a variety of tribunals and courts, as well as in mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

Before joining Chapman Tripp, he worked for another well-regarded New Zealand law firm (with secondments to the Commerce Commission and to a large New Zealand construction company), and also worked in Clifford Chance's construction department based in London.

Recent experience

Jared has:

  • represented the Earthquake Commission (EQC) in relation to issues arising from the Canterbury earthquakes
  • represented private and public sector entities in defective building claims in the High Court and in the Weathertight Homes Tribunal
  • advised parties on construction projects affected by head contractor insolvency events, including principals affected by the Mainzeal receivership and liquidation
  • advised parties on contractual interpretation issues in relation to building damage claims arising out of the earthquakes in Wellington in 2012 and 2013, and more generally in relation to commercial building standards for earthquakes
  • advised contractors and principals on insurance and construction law issues arising from major civil works and building projects in the energy sector, including in particular in the areas of electricity transmission and oil and gas, and
  • advised a variety of contractors and principals on the drafting and negotiation of construction and consultancy agreements, including those based on the standard forms produced by Standards New Zealand (e.g. NZS 3910), NEC, FIDIC, and IPENZ.
