The Capital Market Development Taskforce report will, Commerce Minister Simon Power says, form a “key part of the Government’s wider work programme for the financial sector” going forward.
The Taskforce was appointed by the previous Government in July 2008 but its work took on a new urgency with the global financial crisis and – closer to home – the finance company collapses and the recession.
The Government will respond to the report’s recommendations in the first three months of next year. To underline the report‘s importance, the response will be led by the Prime Minister. Public feedback will be invited on aspects of the review via discussion documents.
This Brief Counsel details the Taskforce’s recommendations and provides analysis where appropriate.
